Dive Report May 11th
The water temperature is warming up and the visibility is greatly improving, which has given our divers some excellent opportunity to experience the “Worlds Aquarium” the Sea of Cortez.
Passing Dolphins and Whales have enhanced our diving at Los Islotes, the home of a colony of some 400 Brown California Sea Lions. Once you approach here the bulls bellow out their warnings and the females bark anxiously; but once you get into the water the attitude changes. Our divers and snorkelers are delighted by the antics of these mammals who are so clumsy on land that do turning somersaults with grace and it appears that they are delighted to have found themselves new and amusing playmates. We have been seeing large schools of Flatrion Herrings and Green Jacks, with big Cortez Angelfish and Mexican Hogfish.
The Salvatierra Wreck is a huge car ferry which you will see double truck tires protruding from the mass of tangled plates and here you will also observe the ship’s propellers are still intact. Our divers have been seeing large schools of snappers, King Angelfish and Mexican Goatfish, while Jewel Morays hide in the wreck and Long-nosed Hawkfish lurk amongst the coral growths.
Another requested dive site is that of Roco Lobos which is an easy and splendid dive where we have been seen some sea lions resting on the rocks there. Here there is good fish life with large Diamond Stingrays and Bull’s Eye Rays.
Here is an opportunity to come and discover this unusual and adventurous diving for yourself that only the Sea of Cortez and The Cortez Club has to offer!
Best Regards,
Bruce
