Well friends this has been a great week for diving in La Paz, the weather could not have been better. The water temp a little on the cold side but nothing a 7 mm wet suit can’t solve, temperature is just bellow 70` at depth an a nice 72`on the surface.
Sea lions? Still playful and putting on a great show of under water acrobatics for divers as well as snorkelers.
Hamerheads still around but getting more difficult to spot them as they start to leave “el bajo” and go to that place only hamerhead sharks know. But as the sharks leave the seamount the place is exploding with life. Schools of thousands of skip jacks circle divers and as they start to fade in the blue from nowhere come this big yellow tail or amber jacks to check you out, all this activity is due to the squid that come to this area every year just around Easter.
Vis at the moment is a little bit difficult to predict, as the water starts warming up plankton starts blooming and the currents move it all around the Sea of Cortez so one day we could have 60 feet vis at a dive site and next day only 30 feet. But we can say the average visibility is around 40 feet. Trade off for this plankton; big life is starting to come in to the Sea of Cortez. Whale Sharks!! Are still around the bay, the only thing is that we let them alone last week giving them time to rest. We hope to visit them this week coming if you guys are still interested to come and see them.
We expect good weather this week and also the water temperature will start to warm up more and more everyday. So just send us e-mail or call to our office and make your reservation. We know that we had a little bit of problems with Airlines here in La Paz bringing people from LAX last week but looks like everything came to the normal life now.
We will come with more news soon...
Saludos,
The Cortez club Crew.
