Baja Scuba Diving Report - May 3rd 2007

Hi to everybody!!

Finally the weather changed and it is getting warmer everyday. The water temperature is still around 70 F and the hammerhead sharks at “El Bajo” give us the opportunity to enjoy them not too deep. Between 60 to 80 ft we can find  big schools of them looking for bait. The sealions at Los Islotes in the north end of Espiritu Santo Island are very play full and make your dives at that site one of the most attractive, because they let you stay close to them and if you have an under water camera is when you can get the best pictures of these beautiful mammals.

The wreck of the Fang Ming is full of life, the school of baracudas are back and it is bigger than last year and they seam to be getting use to divers because now you can get right in the middle of them giving you a great photo opportunity, “Betty” the resident turtle is still around and if you are one of the first groups in the water you have a good chance to get close to this tame turtle.

As the water starts to warm up and plankton starts to grow the schools of mobula manta are coming together, we are already seeing small schools of them and we expect to get the big schools in a couple of weeks, maybe by mid May. These mantas deliver a spectacular show when they jump out of the water and do flips in the air.

The water inside of the bay is getting clean of the red tide, so it is possible that the whale sharks will start showimg up again soon.

Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you want to come to La Paz.

Saludos,

The cortez club crew
